About Us

Code Explorers was founded in 2014 as a non-profit organization by university professors, professional engineers, computer scientists and instructional designers. To spread our knowledge, and increase positive impact in the society,a new Social Enterprise company was created called Code Explorers Worldwide.

After successfully developing and implementing an AI Virtual Assistance training program to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), Code Explorers Worldwide is introducing disruptive technology programs to empower organizations.

Abel Pena-Fernandez
CEO

Abel Pena-Fernandez, CEO and Co-Founder. He is professional Electrical Engineer and AI consultant strategy development and speaker. He is a member of the IEEE Working Group P7003-Algorithmic Bias Considerations, P2863-Recommended Practice for Organizational Governance of AI, P7014 Ethical considerations in Emulated Empathy in Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, and IEEE & The BRAIN Initiative.

Abel was recognized in 2016 by the IEEE as Senior Member for his contributions to society. He has worked for the USA Department of Defense (DOD) developing defense systems, digital transformation building innovative technology centers, developing and introducing new technology training programs in areas of wireless network, microwave, CCS7 network, Telecommunications network configuration, internet of things (IoT), augmented reality, and developing digital transformation strategies for organizations.

He is an entrepreneur with over 20 years’ experience in organization digital transformation, communicating brand value across logos, ads, trademarks, media, trade shows, and conferences. Combined big-picture strategic thinking with rigorous execution. Bilingual, international experience working in Europe, Mexico, Latin America, Caribbean and Brazil.

Maria de Pena
President

Maria de Pena holds a Master of Science Organization and Strategic Management with a specialty in E-Business and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. She has  worked for DOD Naval Research Center, Texas Instruments and Northern Telecom. She earned the TI’s Quality Award of Excellence as well as similar accolades in her engineering career. Maria has been in engineering, science, technology and mathematics education for over 12 years.

In September 2019, Maria was invited to the United Nations General Assembly SDG Action Zone to present Miami Empathy Tech - a project that incorporates Artificial Intelligent (AI) Virtual Assistants with Virtual Reality and 3D to teach children sustainability in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Patricia Ordonez
R&D

Dr. Patricia Ordonez is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science faculty at the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras. My research interests are in applying machine learning, data mining, and visualization to multivariate time series analysis, specifically to large repositories of clinical data. Patricia received a PhD from the department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
